Diaspora Engagement Policy Dataset

I have collected data on 10 diaspora engagement policies (DEPs) from 2015-2017, covering national/federal-level policies that 27 developing Asian countries implemented for their diasporas between 2000 and 2014. These policies include granting special membership concessions, granting dual nationality/citizenship, offering language/history/cultural courses, supporting diaspora schools, hosting business conventions, hosting diaspora forums, conducting media outreach, bestowing diaspora awards, celebrating diaspora day, and establishing diaspora government institutions. I plan to extend the DEP dataset to include Africa.

The interactive map above displays the annual count of DEPs per country. It provides information on DEPs for the following Asian countries: Armenia, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Georgia, India, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Korea South, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Syria, Turkey, UAE, and Yemen. By selecting a year (s) and hovering over a country of interest, the map will show you the number of DEPs that the country implemented in the chosen year(s).

This data collection was supported by the Dissertation Completion Fellowship from the CU graduate school and the Graduate Research Grant for Dissertation from the CU Political Science department.
